00:26 AXEL BREUN DIRECTOR DESIGN CONCEPT & SHOW CARS
00:28 DeZir is part of a life cycle.
00:32 It is truly the start of an adventure, since this first vehicle will be followed by others.
00:40 We designed a vehicle that expresses passion.
00:43 We developed a format language to convey movement, sensuality and a sense of lightness,
00:52 a key point for electric vehicles.
00:57 We adopted the sketch immediately, because it was exactly what we were looking for...
01:04 We wanted to show that an electric car could be beautiful too.
01:10 For the interior design, we looked for a way to express lightness.
01:14 The designer said it was like sitting on a cloud and I like that phrase.
01:20 The benchseat is so light it seems to float.
01:27 This seat reflects one of Renault's fundamental values, sharing.
01:33 So the seats are not partitioned, but even so, the driver is in a privileged position.
01:41 We designed a sort of cockpit with a console that floats but is not separate.
01:47 Concerning the materials, I would say they are almost zen-like.
01:51 We placed the emphasis on light, with shades of white and a few touches of red,
01:59 because red is the colour of passion.
02:01 The heartbeat is also one of the fundamentals.
02:06 This is something we wanted to express, right from the start.
02:09 And there's that pulsating red light.
02:14 For us, it was a way to show the cars soul.
02:18 It's like a living object.
02:23 The basic engine design came from the Fluence project.
02:26 But we sent it to Renault Sport, which boosted the electrics.
02:31 Today, it has power of 120 hp, with the KERS system developed for F1 racing.
02:38 This system, which involves recovering braking energy, boosts horsepower by another 30 hp.
02:43 So that's 150 hp for a weight of just 830 Kg.
02:49 This enabled us to deliver excellent acceleration and real driving thrills.
02:57 We worked on noise as well because, as you know, you can't hear electric cars, at speeds of under 30 kph.
03:03 So the car has to announce its presence.
03:06 It was really interesting to try to find a typical sound for this type of car.
03:13 So we have the sporting side and something a little bit mystic.
03:19 That gives and attractive result.
03:24 We had to find a new front identity for Renault.
03:26 DeZir was really a working tool for us is this respect.
03:32 It will now be applied to the entire Renault range.
03:35 I don't know whether we could say that this car is close to a production model but is seems feasible.
03:45 Because we used parts from existing of future production electric vehicles.
03:53 So why not?
03:54 The question's worth asking.
03:56 Is it a spyder version, or a racing model, a trophy model?
04:03 In any case, I'd say that we have all the components needed to create something,
04:07 and I hope that it will give the company ideas.
04:11 DRIVE THE CHANGE
